Prosper Pope Akanna at Navy

Prosper “Pope” Akanna

Football • United States Navy • Class of 2023

My name is Prosper “Pope” Akanna, and much of who I am today was forged through my training at Grind House Sports—where blood, sweat, and tears were a daily requirement, not a slogan.

Grind House demanded discipline, consistency, and mental toughness. It pushed me beyond my physical limits and taught me how to prepare with purpose, especially when no one was watching. A pivotal figure in that journey was Coach Washington, who believed in me even when my confidence wavered. His accountability, honesty, and unwavering standards challenged me to see more in myself and to rise to a higher level.

Because of the foundation built at Grind House Sports—and the belief Coach Washington instilled in me—I learned how to translate preparation into performance. That work led me to earn varsity letters, serve as a football team captain, break my school’s yards‑per‑carry record (9.1), and receive Second‑Team All‑District honors.

Above all, God showed me that He will always prevail, no matter what.
